Each of the group winners, and the best runner up will qualify automatically for the Euro 2012 final stages in Poland and Ukraine. The remaining 8 runners up will be drawn into four 2 legged play-off ties. The winner of each play-off will join the 10 automatic qualifiers and hosts Poland and Ukraine at Euro 2012.
